NewSPAL’s collection is available for hire by any individual or group nationwide. Browsing of the catalogues, whether online or in person at the Library, is free.
We have two catalogues. The Sets catalogue is for drama and music groups wishing to borrow multiple copies of the same item and for orchestral/band sets. The Individual items catalogue holds our extensive range of chamber music, song collections, instrument tutors, full and miniature scores, drama anthologies, and a huge variety of books on the performing arts.

Individual items catalogue
In order to borrow sets of parts for music and drama you first need to register as a Group User.

our fees and conditions
A one-off Registration Fee for groups is £15.
Once registered, you can borrow as many sets as you like, subject to the hire charges below. There is no reservation fee.
Payment in full is required to confirm your booking, and bookings may be made up to 6 months in advance.
We will need to verify your identity and address before any lending takes place and will contact you for this purpose.
If you need to cancel your booking for any reason, a refund will be given as follows:
You can collect in person from Bourne Hall, Spring St, Ewell, KT17 1UF during our opening hours. Materials will be ready for collection on the start date.
Please advise us on library@newspal.org.uk of your expected collection time and date.
Alternatively we can courier them to you. Delivery charges incurred will be applied to your account along with an administration fee of £5 each way; we will discuss and agree all charges with you before applying them. The start date on your booking is the date on which items are despatched from NewSPAL so please ensure you make an allowance for the time taken for delivery when making your booking.
Collection from another library will no longer be available, as NewSPAL is independent of Surrey Library Service.
Please open carefully and return sets in the same packaging. This will ensure secure transport and enable us to save costs (and the environment!) by re-using packaging as much as possible.
Users will be responsible for returning sets in good condition. Please contact us before the due date and we will guide you through the returns process; we will arrange for a barcoded label to be sent to you and you can drop the package off at a courier collection point.
Late returns
Charges will be applied for items returned late as follows:
Orchestral set (or part of a set) Full monthly rate until returned in full
Vocal score Daily charge of 20p per copy until returned
Part song Daily charge of 15p per copy until returned
Play set Daily charge of 20p per copy until returned
Lost items
Groups will be expected to pay to replace any lost items, but the ‘replacement cost’ listed on the catalogue should not be assumed to be the correct amount (it is there for indicative insurance purposes).
Please contact us at library@newspal.org.uk to discuss any losses before taking any steps to replace them.
