NewSPAL’s collection is available for hire by any individual (chamber, sheet, scores and book) or anywhere in the UK by groups (drama or music sets). Browsing of the catalogues, whether online or in person at the Library, is free.
We have two separate catalogues.
The Sets catalogue is for drama and music groups wishing to borrow multiple copies of the same item and for orchestral/band sets.
The Individual items catalogue holds our extensive range of chamber music, song collections, instrument tutors, full and miniature scores, drama anthologies, and a huge variety of books on the performing arts.

OUR SETS HIRE CHARGES FOR GROUPS

OUR SERVICE
There is a one-off Registration Fee for groups of £17.50. There is no annual subscription and no reservation fee.
We will need to verify your identity and address before any lending takes place and we may contact you for this purpose.
Bookings may be made up to 12 months in advance and all requested charges must be paid for in full (including any delivery charges if you opt not to collect in person) within 14 days.
If a title or the required number of copies is not available, it may be possible to obtain it from other library authorities via an Inter-Library Loan (ILL). There is normally an administration charge of £10 per title for this service, which is offered at the discretion of NewSPAL, and supply is not guaranteed. In the first instance, please contact us by emailing [email protected] .
OUR CONDITIONS
Cancellations
If you need to cancel your booking for any reason, the following terms will apply:
Cancellation more than 3 months before the start date of the hire period booked: no charge
Cancellation 3 calendar months - 1 calendar month before the start date of the hire period: 10% of the value of the booked hire fee
Cancellation 28 days or less before the start date of the hire period: 1 full month's hire fee
Short-notice Requests
Normally we ask you to give at least 28 days' notice. If less notice is given, an additional fee may be charged, equivalent to £5 plus 10% of the original reservation fee. This charge will be added to your reservation payment request email. We will make every reasonable effort to fulfil your order, but we cannot guarantee to do so. In the first instance, please contact us by emailing [email protected] .
Reservation Extensions
It may be possible to extend your period of hire, dependent on other existing reservations and library requirements. Please contact us by emailing [email protected] Payment requests for such extensions are required to be paid within 5 days, otherwise the extension will lapse and Late Returns charges (as below) will apply.
Collection
You can collect in person from Bourne Hall, Spring St, Ewell, KT17 1UF during our normal opening hours. Materials will be ready for collection on the start date. Please advise us of your expected collection time and date by emailing [email protected]
Delivery
Alternatively, we can courier your set(s) to you. Postage & packing charges incurred (including the return cost) will be applied to your account and a payment request emailed to you. The start date of your booking is the date on which items are despatched from NewSPAL, so please ensure you make an allowance for the time taken for delivery when making your booking.
Please open carefully and return sets in the same packaging. This will ensure secure transport and enable us to save costs (and the environment!) by re-using packaging as much as possible.
Any discrepancies must be notified within 5 working days of receipt.
A pre-paid label (normally Royal Mail and orders up to 15kg only) will be enclosed with your outward shipment. Please contact us before the due date if missing, or you have any queries regarding the safe return.
Postage and packing charges
Drama sets and other small packages up to 2 Kg - £6.50, each way
Drama sets and heavier items up to 10 Kg - £8, each way
Choral and orchestral sets - £10 for first box (up to 15 Kg), then £7 per extra box, each way
Returns procedure
Orders up to 15kg are usually provided with a Royal Mail returns label(s).
Visit https://send.royalmail.com/collect/youritems to book your returns collection. Alternatively, your label can be used at any Royal Mail Delivery or Sorting Office.
For orders over 15kg, please contact [email protected] once you are ready to return your order. Give us your availability in the next 5 working days, or provide a date where you are available for a courier to collect your order.
Late returns
Charges are automatically applied for items returned late in accordance with our terms and conditions.
Lost items
Groups will be expected to replace lost items at their own expense, or pay for replacements which will incur an additional administration charge of £10.
